Pride in the North 2012 Schedule

Sunday, March 4th
Northern Exposure II: Pride in the North Film Festival – Upper Lecture Theatre [UC 2011] – 1pm - $6

Pride Central and the Gender Issues Centre (GIC), in collaboration with the Sexuality and Gender Equity (SAGE) working group, are pleased to present Northern Exposure II: Pride in the North Film Festival.

This year's event will be held on Sunday, March 4th from 1-5pm and will kick off a week of events in celebration of Pride in the North. A $6.00 ticket (available at the door) will entitle viewers to 3 excellent films and refreshment break. The event will be held in a theatre in the University Centre on the campus of Lakehead University - Room UC2011. The best way to access the theatre is through the Agora and then up the stairs. The proceeds of this event will be shared between Thunder Pride 2012, The Other 10% (a local LGBTQ youth group) and the Divergence Movie Night.

Film #1 - 100% Woman - This film follows Canadian downhill mountain bike champion Michelle Dumaresq as she shakes up the world of sports. However, it's not her talent that has sparked controversy, it's the fact that for the first 20 years of her life, she was Micheal. This film is presented by Divergence Movie Night in Ottawa.

Film#2 - The Bro Code - This film takes aim at the forces in male culture that conditions boys and men to dehumanize and disrespect women. The film breaks down a range of contemporary media forms that are saturated with sexism. This film is presented by the Gender Issues Centre (GIC).

Film #3 - Beyond Gay: The Politics of Pride - This film provides a comprehensive look at the globalization of Gay Pride marches. Viewers will follow Vancouver's parade director Ken Coolen as he travels the globe visiting other events including Sao Paulo, Brazil and the world's largest parade in New York City. This film is presented by Pride Central.

For more information, please contact Pride Central (Milo) at 343-8813 or the Thunder Bay District Health Unit (Robin) at 625-8321.
